We are social creatures - gathering and greeting each other is important. With the Holidays just around the corner it is important to be vigilant when gathering. Balancing our health and the health of others with our need to be social can be challenging and confusing. We must continue to be transparent and meet our ethical obligations to ourselves and to other people. We must trust that we are all in this together and protecting each other from harm.
Vaccination continues to protect against severe COVID-19 illness, but with the COVID-19 Delta variant now infecting a small percentage of vaccinated people as well as many unvaccinated people, on August 2, 2021, San Mateo County health officer issued a Health Order requiring the use of masks indoors in public places. Vaccines remain the most powerful tool in the fight against COVID-19, including the Delta variant. Nonetheless, the Delta variant is infecting a small percentage of the vaccinated in the Bay Area - who still remain strongly protected against severe illness, hospitalization, and death. I those instances of infection in a vaccinated person, a face covering prevents further spread. Bay Area health officials urge all unvaccinated residents 12 and older to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
The Order requires all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, to wear face coverings when indoors in public settings, with limited exceptions. "The goal is to avoid disrupting businesses and residents' everyday activities," said Scott Morrow, MD, San Mateo County's health officer. "We want our communities to stay open while being as safe as possible." This Health Order aims to reduce community transmission of COVID-19 and protect everyone.
Your Human Resources team will continue to provide resources, notifications, information you need to know, and anything else of relevance related to this pandemic. Together we will help you through these difficult and challenging times.
