In 2023, the Pacifica Police Department proudly implemented an LGBTQ+ Liaison Officer program to positively engage and support members of the LGBTQ+ community.  Our LGBTQ+ Liaison Officer works to build trust and understanding between the police department and the LGBTQ+ community while providing resources to navigate the criminal justice system and ensure that crimes are investigated with thoroughness and compassion.  The LGBTQ+ Liaison Officer serves as a crucial point of contact for individuals and organizations within the community, offering direct support, resources, guidance, and collaboration.

One key responsibility of the LGBTQ+ Liaison Officer is to develop and implement training for both sworn officers and professional staff to ensure respectful interactions that reflect empathy  and professionalism. By offering guidance on best practices, the LGBTQ+ Liaison Officer will model public safety service that proactively supports the needs of the LGBTQ+ community while fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment within our police department.

Historically, interactions between law enforcement and the LGBTQ+ community have caused harm and fueled mistrust. The Pacifica Police Department acknowledges this adversarial past, and we are committed to strengthening our partnership with the LGBTQ+ community and fostering positive relationships through this program.

Officer Susie Cunanan (She/Her/Hers) currently serves as the LGBTQ+ Liaison Officer and can be reached at:
