Lap Swimming Etiquette
For the enjoyment and safety of all our lap swimmers, please be sure to follow these courtesy rules:
- NO diving into the water! Enter feet first.
- Swimmers need/will be required to share lanes when pool becomes crowded and utilize the circle method of swimming when there are three or more swimmers per lane. If there are two swimmers per lane, you should mutually agree to swim in a straight line using half a lane each.
- Swim full laps.
- Do not hang on the lane lines
- If you need to stop at the walls, move to the side so others may continue swimming.
- Be aware of other swimmers near you - on either side, or in front of you. It is your responsibility not to swim into the feet of the person in front of you.
- Staff should not have to be referees. We ask your cooperation so that a courteous and friendly attitude will continue to prevail during our Swim Programs.
- If the code of conduct/rules are broken, lifeguards may ask you to leave at any time.
Family Recreation Swim Rules
- 3 lanes will be available for lap swimming during Recreation Swim.
- Children must be 6 years of age, 48" tall and be water safe to swim unattended, or they must be accompanied in the water one-on-one with an adult.
- No personal flotation devices allowed expect Coast Guard approved life jackets.
- All person wearing life jackets must stay in the shallow end of the pool.
- If the code of conduct/ rules are broken, lifeguards may ask you to leave at any time.

Presenting the Jean E. Brink Pool
The Brink Swimming Pool is a 10 lane, 25-yard indoor pool that is open year-round. The City of Pacifica, Parks Beaches & Recreation Department is the primary user of the pool and offers a wide array of aquatic programs for participants. The Brink pool boasts a 1 meter and a 3-meter diving board. Depth ranges from 3 feet to 12 feet. Pool temperature is maintained at 82 degrees. There are dressing rooms that include lockers; however, participants must provide their own locks and towels.
Who is Jean?
Jean served on the Jefferson Union High School District Board of Trustees for twenty years (1988-2008). Jean is an avid swimmer and has been swimming here since the pool opened in 1978. Jean has been the unofficial "eye on the pool", alerting the district of user concerns, graffiti, or maintenance that needed attention. Over several years, she and other volunteers helped the Pacifica Sea Lions Swim Team with our beautiful tile mosaic on the far wall inside the pool building. As a resident of Pacifica, Jean has served her community beyond the realm of the Board of Trustees. She has volunteered for the City of Pacifica, Parks Beaches and Recreation Department, a committee person and volunteer for Pacifica's annual Fog Fest, a member of the Library Task Force and a volunteer at Sunset Ridge Elementary School. Her service has been recognized by the City of Pacifica as the Parks, Beaches and Recreation Department Volunteer of the Month and by the California Parks and Recreation Society's District IV Volunteer Award. If there is an opportunity to help, Jean can be counted upon to volunteer.
A Little History
In November of 1974, the residents of Pacifica passed Proposition C and committed funds to help Jefferson Union High School District with the construction of an indoor pool on the Oceana High School Campus. Jefferson provided 65% of the funding and the residents of the city 35%. The pool opened for business after 4 years of construction, on June 19, 1978.
