The City of Pacifica is committed to investing in alternative energy source projects that will add to the sustainability of the Calera Creek Water Recycling Plant. A project utilizing photovoltaic solar panels has already been constructed and has been in operation since January 2006. The project has been a success and will provide a 10-15 percent reduction in power costs per year.
Another project in development is construction of the Calera Creek Waste Oil Recycling/Biodiesel Processing Plant. This is an exciting project offering the city the opportunity to turn cooking and waste oil from citizens and restaurants into an energy source. The city continues to look for new opportunities to develop alternative energy sources, incorporate sustainability into its strategic goals and reduce energy costs in the long term.
