Water Safety Instructor

Whether you want to teach individuals to swim, help swimmers refine their strokes or teach safe diving techniques, you can do it as an American Red Cross water safety instructor.

This course will help participants teach children or adults how to swim - a skill that may save a life.

Participants must be 16 years of age or older and complete the following precourse skills: 25-yard front crawl, 25-yard back crawl, 15-yard butterfly, 25-yard breaststroke, 25-yard elementary back stroke, 25-yard sidestroke, treading water for one minute and maintaining position while back floating in deep water for one minute.

The water safety instructor's manual and CD-ROM will provide participants with the tools and information needed to plan and teach courses in the American Red Cross swimming and water safety program, including parent & child aquatics, learn-to-swim, water safety today and basic water rescue.
