In July 1998, the Pacifica Police Department received an Office of Traffic Safety grant to purchase a radar warning trailer. While the uses of this trailer are many, the main use is as a public awareness tool.
Most people do not realize they are speeding, so by placing the trailer throughout the city, the public becomes aware of their speed in a warning situation rather than through an enforcement stop. Public demand for this trailer was so great that further federal and state grand funds were used to field a second radar warning trailer in 2000.
