Citizen Police Academy

In 1995, the crime prevention program instituted the Pacifica Police Department Citizen Police Academy to allow citizens to "meet the men and women behind the badge". The academy consisted of up to twelve separate classes that varied in context with each session. These included some exciting classes such as canine demonstrations, ride-alongs and computer-generated driving and shooting exercises.

Though this program is currently on hold, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office does offer its version of the citizen police academy to all San Mateo County residents.
