Purpose of Pacifica Child Care
We strive to provide quality child care for the families of Pacifica. Our program utilizes developmentally appropriate curriculum and practices in a warm, caring and safe environment to enhance each child's physical, social, intellectual and emotional development.
Who We Serve
Child Care Services is licensed by the State of California Department of Social Services to provide services to a limited number of children ages 3.0 through 14 years at elementary school sites. We serve children regardless of sex, race, color, religion, national origin, ethnic background, physical handicap, political beliefs, sexual orientation, and/or marital/family status.
Each program site is staffed by a Site Coordinator, full-time teachers and part-time staff. Ratios of at least one adult to every eight children (1:8) is maintained in the preschool program and at least one adult to every twelve children (1:12) in the school-age program.
Affectionate and understanding guidance are the trademarks of staff members of Pacifica's Child Care. All staff believe that children away from home for long hours of the day need an extra share of warmth and care. The staff works as a team to provide this friendly, accepting, supportive and safe environment.
How We Are Funded
Child Care Services is funded through participant fees for service and subsidized child care grants from the State Department of Education with additional support from the City of Pacifica General Fund. Members of the Parent Advisory Committee and Pacificans Care also come up with some fun and interesting fund raisers. We also have a fund raiser where shoppers of the local Safeway stores may order Safeway Scrip.
In 1976, the City of Pacifica began providing subsidized child care for low-income families through a grant from the State Department of Education. In 1982, Child Care Services began admitting and serving full-cost children. The program has grown from one site with 47 children enrolled to its current four sites and an enrollment of 300 children. Three sites are preschool and school-aged, and one site is school age only.
Hours of Operation
We are open from 7am to 6pm Monday through Friday year round, closing for City holidays and two staff training days per year. The school-age program interfaces with each school's schedule and is open on early dismissal days during the school term.
